Dr Horrible Conquers Vancouver!
(and by Vancouver, we mean the Vancouver International Fringe Festival 2010 Public Market Pick of the Fringe)
Vancouver BC – On Sunday September 19, the artists, audience members, volunteers and fans of the Vancouver International Fringe Festival packed Performance Works to celebrate another fantastic Fringe season and to find out which shows would be selected as part of the 2010 Public Market Pick of the Fringe – and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog was chosen as a National Pick to give encore performances at the Waterfront Theatre on September 23 and September 26.
Broadway West and Relephant Theatre bring Joss Whedon’s cult Internet musical Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog to the Waterfront Theatre following a sold-out run at the Firehall Arts Center as a BYOV Venue for the 2010 Vancouver International Fringe Festival. Starring Jon Lachlan Stewart as Dr. Horrible and Shane Snow as his nemesis Captain Hammer, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog delighted both audiences familiar with the Internet cult hit’s original incarnation starring Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion, and new fans of the darkly funny and ultimately moving musical. Highlights from the run included a dress-up matinee, group visits from Whedon fans, and a visit from Felicia Day, who played Dr. Horrible’s love interest Penny in the original musical.
“If the hype surrounding Dr. Horrible on Facebook and Twitter is any indication, Vancouverites will be anxious to see the live version.” –Andrea Warner, WestEnder
“All three actors knew how to deliver lines with perfect comedic timing, making the original dialogue sparkle… let’s see it again. Right now.” – Jeff Lawrence, sadmag.ca
“You guys were awesome, and I hope you get some more shows so us “cult” members can come see you guys again!” – Dr. Horrible Fan via Facebook
“ The performance was absolutely wonderflonious, and Felicia being there made it all extra shiny. It was like flying past cloud 9 with a rocket pack on the way to the moon to become a florist! And I don’t say that every day. – Dr. Horrible Fan via BC Browncoats
